Low-Cost Traffic For Targeted Niche Income
Growing your passive income can be augmented by matching good sources of traffic with very targeted affiliate offers. Actually, that is the entire concept behind affiliate marketing. Anyway, one of the most overlooked and best sources of low-cost web traffic is still banner advertising. Believe it or not, people still click on banners, and if you can get your click-through rate above 0.5%, you stand to make a hansom profit.
So what are the basics and how do you make money with this traffic source? Well, if I don’t have a specific program I am promoting I visit websites with banner inventory and try to see if there are products that would be a good match. To find the sites I visit advertising clearing houses such as BuySellAds.com and ProjectWonderful.com.
I look for sites that target a specific niche and have a fair amount of traffic with low cost per advertisement. Once I find my target site I check the URL through Quantcast and Compete.com to verify the traffic, then run the URL through the Google Adplanner tool to see what related sites are associated with the target. During this period I am simply trying to learn as much about the demographics of this niche as possible and verify that they are willing to spend money. The example that I used in the video below is targeting the biker niche as a group of people who love to spend money customizing their motorcycles.
Once I am comfortable with my target site I spend time matching a high-converting offer with the individuals in that niche. For this type of program I do like physical products and once again the example used was motorcycle accessories. After locating a good product or offer I look at the creatives associated with the offer and the site that will display the banners. If they look too similar I will create my own banners, often just using bright colored text on a background that looks markedly different from the rest of the site. Remember with banner advertising the only way to make it profitable is to get your click through rate high and and the only way to accomplish that is by being different than the rest of the site. Test often and remember that ugly banners often convert much better than clean and professional ones. Just like autoblogging, if you are looking for click through, go ugly.
Anyway, place the ad and track your results. Keep testing the banner until you get your click through and revenue to where you need it.
Here is the tutorial that details much of what I just wrote.
